Interview Dos and Don’ts: Tips for Acing Your Next Job Interview

As a job candidate, you want to make the best impression possible during a job interview. Here are some dos and don’ts to keep in mind to increase your chances of landing the job.

Dos:

  1. Do research the company and the position you are applying for. This shows that you are interested and invested in the role.
  2. Do dress appropriately and professionally for the interview. Make sure you look neat, clean and presentable.
  3. Do arrive on time, or a few minutes early. Being punctual demonstrates your respect for the interviewer’s time and professionalism.
  4. Do bring copies of your resume and any other relevant documents to the interview.
  5. Do listen actively to the interviewer and ask thoughtful questions. This shows that you are engaged and interested in the opportunity.
  6. Do be yourself and be confident. Let your personality shine through and be authentic in your responses.

Don’ts:

  1. Don’t be negative about your current or past employers or co-workers. This reflects poorly on your attitude and work ethic.
  2. Don’t arrive too early, as this can be seen as intrusive. Wait in a nearby coffee shop or park until it’s closer to the scheduled interview time.
  3. Don’t be unprepared. Make sure you have answers to common interview questions and know what you want to convey about yourself.
  4. Don’t use your phone or other electronic devices during the interview. Keep them turned off and out of sight.
  5. Don’t ask about salary or benefits before they have been discussed. Wait until the interviewer brings up the topic, or until you have been offered the job.

By following these dos and don’ts, you can make a great impression and increase your chances of landing the job. Good luck with your interview!
